December WIPocalypse Wrap Up

Alrighty, we survived the ending of the Mayan calendar and finished out the WIPocalypse! It’s time to make the final update and re-visit a bit of what I did.

So, at roughly this time last year I made my goals post and I had 6 things currently started (is that all?). My conservative goal was to work on everything I had going at least once, a goal which proved to be too ambitious as I didn’t quite manage it, haha! I’m still happy though and here’s what I did do:
I actually managed to finish two things on my list, David Tennant as Dr. Who and the Animal Heads kit (properly called Wildlife Trio).

I did not get to the Halloween Pony this year (poor Halloween Pony). Better luck to him next year.

Everything else on the list I did work on at least once, yay! First up is the progress I made on Snow White:

I lied to myself again and after my last statement about taking a little break from her I did do some more on her this month. I’m just hopeless I guess J. No, her skirt still isn’t done but I got a kit for Christmas that I’ve said I can’t start until all the cross-stitching on her is complete (see what I did there, haha) so now with this added motivation I may finally finish her up!
The London at Twilight picture is next:

I’ve broken the picture down into 20 x 20 squares to see how I liked doing it that way. I wanted to do about 1 square a month (didn’t happen) but I did put on another 5 squares this year.
Lastly, the secret picture for my mom which turned out to be the not so secret HAED dragon.

Here’s where I am up to right now. With luck I would like to get him finished next year as he was my very first HAED start. Aside from the sense of accomplishment that would bring I have about half a dozen other HAEDs waiting to be worked on, so he needs to get done, haha.

That’s it for the ones I had started at the beginning of the year. I also listed a few that I wanted to start which included:
The 2012 HAED Freebie SAL, where I chose to stitch on SK Blue Moon by Linda Ravenscroft. Here’s where I ended up at.

Tons of confetti going on in this piece, but I’m proud of how far I got. I’m going to continue working on it, but yes, I also signed up for next year’s Freebie SAL (I chose QS Heather by Hannah Lynn) so I’ve a feeling I’m going to get distracted J.
I also started not one but two of Marta Dahlig’s seven deadly sins, again charted by HAED. Here are Sloth (blue) and Gluttony (pink):

The first 10 rows of page 1 are complete on both pictures (with a bit more besides). Sloth was officially on my list to be started, and even though Gluttony wasn’t I didn’t end up starting the Summer Lady by Maria Diaz, so I’ll just replace her with Gluttony and call it good J. I’m excited to see how these two progress next year as I’m hoping to get at least 2 pages done on each of them.
Finally (jeez, this goes on forever doesn’t it?) I did get to start my epic Sailor Moon piece that I was so excited about. I finished two characters on it (see sidebar) and started a third:

Yes, this is Chibiusa (or Rini) again, this time in her school outfit. There are myriad reasons why she’s not done yet (I didn’t like her hair color and needed to fix it; I got distracted by other projects) but probably the main one is that I actually don’t quite like her character enough to already be stitching her a second time. Thus are the draw backs of having the stitching order be determined by randomly drawing out names and then being forced to stitch whatever you pull, haha! Oh well, I do want to progress on this piece next year, so I’ll try to get her finished up soon so that I can (finally!) move on to somebody else J.

Whew, I think that just about does it! Additionally from these I did some other projects, most of them small with the ABCs of Aging Artfully thrown in for kicks, so all in all not a bad year. Here’s to next year being as kind J.

Have a great stitching week!

Christmas Stitching

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve done any updating. December seems rather to have gotten away from me. I thought I’d do a quick one to get back in the habit. Here’s the Christmas ornament I made for my mom this year:

Final WIPocalypse post of the year forthcoming.

November WIPocalypse Update

What’s that? I’m actually posting on the day of the full moon? Hot dog, I’ve managed to do this on time again! To keep the good times going I even have updates on multiple projects J.

Alright, we’ll do Snow White first. Progress on her skirt has been minimal once again (no it’s not done yet haha). I think I’ve been slowing down as I continued to try to work on her past the point I really wanted to. So despite wanting to have her finished this year I’m going to take a little break from her. I’ll either be in the mood to work on her again before the year is out or she’ll become my first finish of next year J.

Here’s Blue Moon, complete through row 21!

That white chunk is her arm and those tentacle-ly things are part of her headdress. See, it’s not a blob of colors anymore yay! This was my first time participating in HAED’s freebie SAL on the BB, but I’ve signed up for next year as well. I’ve chosen to do QS Heather, even though I’d like to do the full size piece too. I like the new requirements for obtaining the other charts and I’m hoping Heather won’t be as confetti filled as Blue Moon!

Finally I have been working on the two sins I started. Gluttony has still been calling to me more than Sloth, which surprises me as overall I like Sloth more, but oh well haha! I have roughly 1200 stitches in on Gluttony and about 600 on Sloth, but they are both moving right along.

Have a great stitching week!

Someday the End Will Come

So I’m still not done with the skirt yet haha! At least the rows are now getting shorter, so with some luck it may not be too much longer. Promises promises J.

Have a great stitching week!

October WIPocalypse Update

Happy Halloween! I nearly didn’t make this update in time, but I managed to squeeze it in J. I’ll make this brief- I have two old and two new projects to report on.

First up is Snow White who is no longer dismembered and even gained a second foot haha. Just the right half of her skirt left to go.

Next is Blue Moon which is now complete through the first 19 rows! Her arm even managed to grow a bit too J.

Lastly I finally dived in and started both Sloth and Gluttony from HAED. I’m not too far along yet but they’re still fun to work on (for now haha!).

I’ll leave you with a picture of a fish I found floating in Gluttony’s drapes. Who knows what else might be lurking there?

I hope everyone on the East Coast is doing alright. Best of luck to you in the days to come.

More Snow White

I didn’t think I’d made enough progress on Snow White to warrant another post but looking back on my previous picture of her I realized I was farther along than I’d thought.

Almost finished with the left half of her skirt!  It remains to be seen which side actually has more stitches: as of right now I’ve just about used up one whole skein.  No IHSW update for me again, as this time I was busy all weekend.  There’s still next month though and another WIPocalypse post to come so hopefully I’ll have something to show yet!

Have a great stitching week!

A Bit More Yellow

Back to the slow grindstone, haha! Just another little update for this week, but I did manage to add some more to Snow White’s skirt. Hopefully I’ll be able to add some more this week too.

Have a great stitching week!

September WIPocalypse Update

Alright for once I have many pictures to show which is rather exciting haha! It’s time once again to update on the WIPocalypse pieces I’ve been working on the past month. First up is my progress on Blue Moon:

The confetti was starting to drive me a bit bonkers so I found a nice block of color to work on- her arm! There are still a couple different shades in that bit, but on this piece it was nice to be able to do more than one stitch at a time J.

To combat the confetti I’ve got Snow White to help me out.

I’m continuing down the left side of her skirt for now, but it’s actually coming along quicker than I expected.

Next, I finally have a completed figure on my Sailor Moon project!

This is Hawk’s-Eye and he is the first villain of the piece and the second character overall. Based on my current speed I can tell this project is going to take longer than initially planned but I’m having fun so I don’t mind J.

Now for something I haven’t shown for a while, here’s my London project:

Yes, I actually completed another square this month yay! Who knows I may finish this one yet haha! (Maybe I’ll just concentrate on getting halfway first though. Baby steps).

Finally I thought I’d end with showing my progress on the picture I’m making for my mom.

This is one I haven’t shown on here yet as for the longest time I was stitching it in secret for her. Well, I’m not very good at keeping secrets from her and after being good for nearly a year (!) I finally caved and showed her. Now though I can post updates here so it’s all good haha! This is the first HAED piece I started about a year and a half ago. It’s a tiny treasure, the sampler letter D (obviously J) by Selena Fenech. I’m hoping to finish it up by Christmas, but I’ve heard that one before!

Have a great stitching week!

Oops, was it the Hermitage?

Looks like I let this one get by me this time. I do have a little bit of progress to report but lately I’ve been reading more than stitching. One of my favorite authors was in town on tour doing a reading and signing books so I’ve been madly trying to get through a bunch.J The event was a lot of fun, but I don’t get much stitching in when I’m reading all the time.J

So, on the stitching front now that David is finished I’ve been working on a couple different things trying to decide which one is the next closest to being complete. One of those is Snow White so here is where she is at now:
I started her skirt finally after not working on her for nearly a year. Looks like more giant blocks of color are in my future though, haha!

Have a great stitching week!

August WIPocalypse Post Take 2

It’s still August, but tonight is another full moon meaning another WIPocalypse update! I had greatly hoped to have two (yes two!) finishes to show off this time, but it wasn’t meant to be. Still, I have one finish to report and that’s something, haha! I have finished stitching David Tennant portraying Doctor Who and you can see what he ended up looking like in this post here.

Here’s Blue Moon once again as well (very appropriate name too, considering the day!).

I believe I said last time that I was going to try to get up through row 20 done. That didn’t quite happen, but the first 17 rows are done now, with a bit more besides J. See, it is growing, bit by bit J.

As always, I can hope for more progress next time, but I don’t think I did too badly this month. Until then,

Have a great stitching week!

Introducing the 10th Time Lord

Woo hoo!! He’s finished at last! For some reason that brown just seemed to really drag on, but we got there in the end J. Here he is, in all his timey-wimey glory:

Well, now David’s all finished that means I get to start something else, right? Decisions, decisions.

Have a great stitching week!

August IHSW

Well, the weekend is over and I have some progress to report! Mostly it was a brown weekend, so here’s the update on David:

Just under 20 rows of brown left haha! (Can you tell I’m getting anxious to be through them? No? Ok, good J). Every time I put something in writing I seem to go back on it, but I think it’s about time I get down to business and finish him up. Alright, now that that resolution is out there, what else can I work on …

Have a great stitching week!

Gearing Up for the Hermitage

I’m considering this a late post from last weekend rather than an early post for this weekend J. This weekend is the next International Hermit and Stitch Weekend, so I’ll get some more progress done on some of my pictures and then have another update, yay!

So here’s the latest shot of how David’s coat is going:

I’ve still done some more since this photo, but it was a little slow going as I had a visit from the frog, haha. Everything’s been fixed now though and he’s slowly progressing once again- I’m counting down on the number of brown rows left. I believe I still have about 30 to go, haha!

Now I finally have finished the first character in the Sailor Moon piece, so here is Princess Chibiusa in a very pink dress:

Yay, one down, 119 to go J. I’ve already started on the next figure, one of the bad guys this time, so with luck I’ll have another one finished in time for the WIPocalypse post.

Alright, happy hermitting everyone and have a great stitching week(end)!

August WIPocalypse #1

I wanted to start today’s update by thanking everyone for the lovely comments they’ve been leaving! I really do appreciate them, so thank you! J

First order of business for today will be to report that the Animal Heads (Wildlife Trio) picture is finally finished! You can see what it looks like in this post here. One down and … many more to go, haha!

I’ve also been slowly adding more to Blue Moon. I don’t work on this one as much as I probably should, but it is growing J. The first 13 rows are all done, so now I’m going to concentrate on trying to get up to 20 done.

Next up, I’ve returned to working on David:

His suit is just about complete, but I’ve started on his coat so I can get a better sense of what should be dark blue and what should be dark brown. Not too much more to go, but I may take a break from him before too long.

Lastly for today, I have my first update on my Sailor Moon project! There’s no good reason why this character isn’t done yet either, except that I got into working on David.

So Princess Chibiusa is the first one being stitched. I just need to finish her hair and dress and then I can draw who the next character will be. I will say that next up is going to be a bad guy as I’m going to flip flop between good and bad.

Have a great stitching week!

July IHSW: Guess Who...

Yay, I’ve returned from the wedding and was able to take part in the hermitage weekend once again! I had a great time in the mountains though; the ceremony and scenery were both really beautiful! Luckily the matte came in from Michaels just in time for me to frame Aging Artfully. Personally I think it came out quite nice J.

Since finishing this picture I was able to get back to some other stitching and I chose…David! He’s now got all his stripes in and I’ve started on the blue.

Have a great stitching week!

Animal Heads Complete!

Woo hoo, they’re done! The last of the backstitching went in a couple of days ago, so now I can finally cross my oldest WIP off my list J.

They turned out a lot better than I was expecting, which is a good thing J. The leopard in particular I think came out well, but all the animals are nice. Now one of the projects on my WIPocalypse list is done. I didn’t actually list finishing any projects as my part of my goals (I said I just wanted to work on them all, haha), but I was secretly hoping some would get finished. So, now onto the next victim er, project J.

Have a great stitching week!

July WIPocalypse Update

Another month down, so it’s time to see if I’m making any progress again, haha! The majority of my recent posts have been about the wedding present I was making for my best friend. As I finally finished that project at the end of June I was able to go back to my WIPocalypse pieces, but only for a day or so. I do however have two projects to report on this month, so that’s a step up!

First is my update on the HAED BB freebie SAL, Blue Moon. I’m starting to work my way down the sides now, on either side of the girl and the moon, and here’s what it looks like now:

The second page has come out already, but I’m enjoying working on the first J.

I also have another update on the Animal Heads! I’ve been close to finishing this one for a while now, with only the backstitching left to complete, but Aging Artfully needed to be done first. I have finished the backstitch on the animal heads themselves but it’s still… not done, haha!

I started working on the final bit of backstitch which is the background, so hopefully it won’t be too long before this one is done as well J.

Finally, I’ve made steps toward starting my Ultimate Sailor Moon picture, which is another piece on my WIPocalypse to-do list. I’m not going to say which character I’m starting with, but here’s a little teaser:

Have a great stitching week!

Aging Artfully- Complete

It’s done, it’s done! Major happy dancing going on here as I finished the ABC’s of Aging Artfully, and on time too, haha! This was a Lizzie Kate design and I made it for a friend who’s getting married next month. I still have a couple of weeks to get it framed and ready to go, so I’m feeling pretty good J. Here’s the finished picture:

As nice a project as this was I’m ready to get back to my other pictures. At least I have a few days before the next WIPocalypse post is due, so maybe I’ll have a larger update this time… or maybe not, haha!

Have a great stitching week!

Two Colors Down, Five to Go!!

WooHoo, the end is in sight now!  All of the brown and the green is done on Aging Artfully, so now it’s just a matter of knocking off the remaining colors.  I may actually meet me deadline for this after all. J Here’s where it’s at:

I realize too that I haven’t posted a picture of this in about 3 weeks! Oops, but hey it tends to look more impressive that way. J  I’ll just keep cracking on with this and then soon I can get back to my other projects.

Have a great stitching week!

June Wipocalypse update

Oops, I am way late to the party this time, ha-ha! I wish it was for a good reason, so that I could say, “Here, at least this is done!”, but it’s notJ. I’ve almost exclusively been continuing on Aging Artfully and didn’t even touch my WIPocalypse projects with the exception of Blue Moon. But here’s that one at least:

The top 10 rows are officially done! I’m getting there, slowly but surelyJ. Maybe more progress will be made this month, but as AA has to be finished by the end of June we’ll seeJ.

Have a great stitching week!

Some Green and Gold

Well I finally made it into the world of color, haha. I didn’t get quite as far as I was hoping to by today, but I finished the green off and started on the gold. I probably won’t finish these rows off by the end of the month like I wanted, but I’m getting there J.

Have a great stitching week!

IHSW May; or A Wee Bit More Brown

That’s what I have to show once again this week.  I’ve almost completed the brown on the first five rows.  The plan is to go back and start filling in some of the other colors now rather than finishing off the brown.  (I’m getting a bit browned out!)

Have a great stitching week!

Aging Slowly, but Artfully.

Time once again to show my progress on Aging Artfully!  This is actually two weeks worth of stitching, not one, so it is still sort of slow going.  I decided to just work on the brown portion for a bit and that seems to make it look as though it’s moving along, which I like. J

The A and E sections are officially all complete, so 2 down, 24 to go!

 Have a great stitching week!

May WIPocalyspe Update

All right, time for another full moon update! I don’t have quite as much to show this month as I was hoping, but I do have some updates J.

Originally I wanted to have the animal heads completely finished by today, but due to having to work on Aging Artfully that didn’t happen. I did however finally finish all the stitching and even managed to start the backstitch:

Ta da! I think they look pretty cool in the photo now, but I know they’ll look better once all the details are in, haha. I’ve done all the 2 stranded backstitch on the zebra and the giraffe (there wasn’t much), so just a little bit on the leopard to go. (Then I can do the rest of the backstitch….. haha it’s never ending!).

Next up is my update on Blue Moon for the HAED BB SAL.

The first 4 rows across the top are officially done! Of course now that the second page has come out there is even more to look forward to. I’ll try to pace myself so I don’t get overwhelmed though, haha!

And finally I have an update on something new that I planned to add to my WIPocalypse list during the course of the year- my Sailor Moon project! Before you get your hopes up there aren’t any pictures of actual stitching yet, but I did finish gridding it out a few weeks ago. This was my first attempt at gridding, done primarily to ensure that the characters would all be placed correctly later on (and I tried to triple check the counting so I really hope it’s right, haha!).

I used three different colors of sewing thread for my lines, one for the good guys, one for the bad guys and one for the symbols. Here’s what they look like in real life:

I know they don’t necessarily show up that well so here’s the layout as I have it on PC Stitch:

Haha, I’m super excited! Good guys on top, bad on the bottom, and since they’re all sectioned out already I’m going to hold a drawing to see which order they get stitched in. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to actually begin stitching on it later this summer.

Ok, I think that’s all for now so-

Have a great stitching week!
