Holiday Stitching to Commence

At least, that’s what should be happening J. I’ve got my ornament for the year picked out and I will start it soon. In the meantime Celtic Spring has rather taken over.

I do love purple! It’s exciting how the swirls are beginning to take shape now. I’ll try to fit her into my holiday stitching now though, rather than the other way around J.

I have managed a bit more on the Winter Lady too. The metallic border is coming along and adding some nice sparkle to the piece.

A Finish and Some Progress

My cousin’s wedding was last weekend and a good time was had by all J. I finished the Lizzie Kate 3 Little Words piece I was making for the newlyweds and was able to find a frame in time too:

I really liked how it looked with the double mats but it was trickier than I expected to frame it- there wasn’t enough room for glass or a proper backing board! I got the back of the frame on finally but it was still rather tight haha!

I’ve also completed all the half stitching on the Winter Lady now too!

Yay! Just the metallic stitching and the back stitching left to go on her now. I’m aiming to try to complete the metallic cross stitching by the end of the year, but I’m not going to worry about getting her completely finished this year. If I only have backstitching left she can be my first finish of next year J.

Winter is Coming Along

The Winter Lady got some more stitching time recently, which allowed her background to grow some more. The largest portion is complete now and I’ve moved onto the banister portion (as well as my new skein of floss J ).

I’m almost finished with the wedding stitch now too- just the potted plant left so hopefully I can show that soon J.

Spring and Winter Again

I’ve been continuing on with Celtic Spring lately. The yellows are practically all finished now as I’ve completed her sleeve and bouquet. While I was working on her flowers the colors all just looked like a smush to me so I think it’s pretty neat how now that they’re done they actually look like something! I’ve started in on the purples in her dress, which I find more exciting J.

The background of the Winter Lady is still getting some attention too. I’m getting closer to finishing off the large top portion. I actually went out to get another skein of that color though as I don’t think I’ll be able to do the whole background with just one. Summer Lady only took one if I’m remembering correctly but perhaps because of her position there still weren’t as many stitches (or something).

I’ve made a start on the project I’m doing for the wedding. It’s one of Lizzie Kate’s 3 Little Words flip it series. It’s coming along well so far but I suppose I need to be more diligent in putting down Celtic Spring and the Winter Lady to work on it. The wedding is at the end of this month after all J!

Birthday Stitching and Other Updates

How time flies once again! I’ve been continuing to work on the same projects as last time. I’ve finally finished all the non-metallic cross stitching on the Winter Lady and have started the half stitch background.

The background is growing fairly decently (at least when I actually work on it haha!) so that makes me happy J. Just these half stitches and the metallic stitching left before the backstitching now.

When I don’t want to work on the Winter Lady’s background I’ve been adding more to Celtic Spring.

I’ve got her sleeve and hand all finished up now and I’ve begun working on her bouquet. There’s been a lot of yellow stitching so far for a piece that’s mostly purple- I can’t wait to start in on her dress!

My mom’s birthday was yesterday (Happy Birthday again!) and I managed to get this piece finished in time:

This little guy is what I’ve mostly been working on the previous two weeks. He was well received and now that he’s done I’m going to turn my attention to a wedding stitch that needs to be started… J.

Every Season But the One I'm In

Or so it seems J. Actually it’s just two other seasons I’m showing today. First up again is the Winter Lady.

The final portion of her dress is coming along. It’s all shades of green so there’s not much variety when I’m wanting to switch off J.

I’ve done a bit more on Celtic Spring too.

The purple portion of her sleeve is finished now so next up is the cream portion.

Slo(w)th Update

Well it’s been awhile since I’ve shown my progress on Sloth. As the title suggests visible progress seems very slow in the making. However, here’s where I’m at:

I have now forayed into a third pattern page (pg #7) and have stitched down 100 rows. Yay! I made a two part stitching goal for this project this year and I’m very excited as I’ll actually end up accomplishing it J. My stitch count goal should be completed in the next few months so I’m very pleased that my method for this piece is working. All I’m doing is making sure I stitch on it for at least 1 hour a week every week, so progress is guaranteed to come slowly but that’s ok J. I’m already thinking of expanding this method to some of the other sins next year.

Where's All the Stitching Time Gone?

Seriously though, I blink and suddenly June is over. Whoops! It’s been rather busy here lately with plenty of other distractions but I do have a few updates J.

The Winter Lady just has one more section before her dress is complete! Let’s hope she can somehow keep me cool now that summer is officially starting haha!

I got out Celtic Spring again as I really wanted to work on her lately. I’m finally into the purple shades on her sleeve (my favorite color) so she’s been quite fun to work on.

I haven’t really added much to Snowflake Serenade but it was out during my round of photo taking so I’m showing it again too! Must get back to this one … J.

Wintery Mother's Day

I’ve another update on the Winter Lady today which seems appropriate given that it snowed Saturday into Sunday. It is spring now right? I know it is, as the snow had all melted by the end of the day J.

More of her dress has been completed! I’m working on the largest section right now, so it’ll be a bit before that’s done. Still I was surprised that there is only one more section to go after this J.

Hey, another square on London is done! It’s impossible to tell I know but I just finished the most central square in the piece and finished off the first page too! Who knows, I may finish this one yet J.

April Stitches

I finished the pink block of my blackwork sampler at last!

Although it’s difficult to see each section has two shades of pink in it. Here’s a close up of the different patterns.

The four shades I chose are all part of the same pink family, but I thought they would differentiate themselves a bit more than they actually do.

Even if the difference ends up being only textural I still like those shades. For all I know the purple and teal families I chose will do the same thing J. I’m going to do the connecting motifs in the same brown as the border and I think that should set off all the colors nicely.
I finally got back to my Winter Lady again.

The first portion of her dress is complete! It’s funny, she has a sort of Princess Leia look going on with the flowers in her hair, but because they are shades of white/light pink they look mostly invisible without the backstitch J. I’m about halfway done with the next section of her dress so hopefully it won’t be too much longer before that’s done.
I have another update on my Sailor Moon piece. Here is the first planetary symbol I’ve added, Saturn.

This marks the end of what I’ve termed Round 1 haha! Here’s an overall shot of the whole (huge!) thing. I did crop the photo, but to give you an idea of the size the fabric it's on is 5 feet long (on 16ct).

The last two pictures are what’s complete on the top half (good guys) and the bottom half (bad guys). I gridded out the whole piece before starting by boxing out where all the figures would go so I could work on them in any order I felt like. I used two different colors so that’s why you can’t see any of the bottom half boxes in the photos J. On to Round 2!
Finally, I recently received a new oriental kit as a gift. I love oriental themed pictures and have several I want to do. When I got my new kit I of course had to get out the others and look at them J.

This is the majority of the pieces I’d currently like to do. I even have one (and a half!) of them done. Several other stitchers are working on some of those now, so it’s great seeing what they’ll look like stitched up. Guess I’d better get busy!

Mid-March Update

I have completed another figure on my Sailor Moon piece so I thought I’d do a quick update.

This is Princess Kakyuu, the Fireball Princess, a friend and ally of the Sailor Scouts. Another confetti filled figure, but I really enjoyed working with the colors in her dress.

I’ve been working a bit on my blackwork sampler too. I have the first pattern filled in and am about halfway through another. I really like how it’s coming along so far. The first pattern is done in the lightest pink shade I chose (out of four) and I thought it might be too light in one strand but it seems to be working just fine J.

February Stitching

I got some more progress in on the Winter Lady last month.

I didn’t manage to finish the first portion of her dress like I was aiming to but it’s at least started J.

More endless blue on Sloth. I actually reached a mini milestone on her though, as the blue rows are now short enough that they’re contained to the first page of the pattern!

Here’s my blackwork sampler once again, this time with the borders for the first four blocks complete. This is what I was madly working on during the first half of the month and then had to put aside to work on other things, haha.  I hope to begin filling in block one this month so it may take over once again!

The samurai’s back! Now he has his hands, fan, one katana, and the baby tree above his shoulder done. I may try to finish his other katana before I move on from him or I may not J.

January Progress

A new stitching year is underway and so far things are off to a good start J. Here’s an update on all the projects I worked on this month. It being the beginning of the year I always make a very ambitious goal list for myself- it’s fun until I realize I’ve overreached a bit once again! We’ll begin with the new starts for 2015 so far J.

First up is the project I’ve termed the Winter Lady.

She is part of the same series as the Summer Lady, which I completed last year. She’s coming along very nicely- her skin and hair are complete already and I had to stop her at this point so I could work on some other pictures J. Next month I’ll begin work on her art deco dress, which I’m looking forward to. She is designed by Maria Diaz and appeared in issue 25 (USA numbering) of Cross Stitch Gold.

Here’s my small start on The Twisted Band Sampler by Northern Needlework Expressions. After seeing several lovely versions completed by other stitchers I caved and started my own. I’m doing mine in the DMC conversion- no silk thread for me yet, haha!

This is my latest new start this year; in fact I just finally started it today. I also saw many stitchers working on this piece last year and am finally starting mine. This is the Save the Stitches blackwork sampler designed by Elizabeth Almond. It’s a free pattern, released in 24 parts and can be found here. I’ll be doing the border in brown and then working the diaper (filling) patterns in purple, pink, and teal. I’m pretty excited for this one, as well as The Twisted Band Sampler and I’m looking forward to learning the new stitches and techniques involved.

Alright, onto the old starts!

I’ve been continuing to work on London again, also designed by Maria Diaz. I’m still doing this one in 20 x 20 stitch blocks and it seems to be working. I’ve only set a goal of finishing the current “row” this year (4 blocks) but I’m trying to be conservative (sometimes that happens haha).

Here’s Sloth again, one of the Seven Deadly Sins from Marta Dahlig and Heaven and Earth Designs. I probably last posted a progress picture light years ago because it really doesn’t look like progress is being made haha! I didn’t work on her last year until near the end of the year so this year my goal is to work on her a bit every week. She’s still just a solid hunk of blue background but I do really enjoy this series so I’m trying to get back into the patient swing of working on such a large pattern.

This one was actually a new start at the end of 2014. It’s called Snowflake Serenade by Country Cottage Needleworks. Not too much going on yet but I finished the large snowflake this month. I like several of CCN’s designs and this is the first one I’ve started.

Finally, I have finished another sprite on my Sailor Moon project. Her name is Sailor Heavy Metal Papillon (a mouthful!), a bad guy from season 5. She also took forever and for the opposite reason as Sloth- lots of confetti stitching. However I do like how she came out as per usual and I’m already gearing up for the next figure J.
Lots of stitching fun in store this year I think!
