Another Spring-Like Project

Here is start number 2 for the year!

This is the Blackwork Hummingbird that appeared in Issue 231 of The World of Cross Stitching. It’s designed by Valentina Sardu of Ajisai Press and after browsing around her website I’ve already seen several other designs I’d like to add to my wish list! This is only the second blackwork design I’ve started (and granted I haven’t actually gotten to the blackwork portion yet) but I’ve seen more and more designs lately that have caught my eye. Here’s my start:
This is also the first project I’ve started using hand dyed fabric. I had been searching a while for the perfect piece for this project and finally got this lovely piece of purple lugana. It’s called Lila and I got it from the wonderful site Chromatic Alchemy. Purple is my favorite color and I thought the greens of the hummingbird would stand out really well on it, as well as provide a great contrast with the actual blackwork. I’ve been very excited by this one so far!

An Introduction to Spring

I’ve only been tempted into one new start so far this year J. That certainly won’t last forever as there is some fabric on the way for one project and I’m working on wrapping the floss for another. I still have yet to post about all the projects I started last year too, haha.

My New Year’s start for this year, which finally got underway around the middle of January, is a piece I’m calling Spring Lady. Here is my start:
Since you might not be able to get too much from that blob (J) here is a picture of the finished piece:
Yes, I have finally started the third seasonal lady in the series. The designer is the ever wonderful Maria Diaz and the pattern I’m using appeared in issue 20 of Cross Stitch Gold. She’s got some really pretty purples and greens in her dress (how spring-like!) and I’m looking forward to working on her this year. With luck it won’t be too long before she can join her sisters Summer and Winter.
